Hospitals and healthcare organizations are progressing into the 21st century much quicker than previously anticipated. New data from the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services reports the numbers of hospitals upgrading their electronic health-record systems is on the rise. After starting off slowly, there are nearly 3,700 hospitals meeting meaningful-use requirements after the deadline for eligible hospitals was recently extended to the end of December.
A recent survey also found that 96% of mid-sized healthcare organizations are already using or are seriously considering the use of cloud technology. Even better, the survey indicates that while there is some hesitation to storing data in the cloud, 64% of respondents say they are “very confident” in the security capabilities of cloud technology – compared to 52% of all industries pointing to security as a main concern in moving forward with cloud computing.
